Shafaq News / Fuad Masum, the President of Iraq said in Paris that changing the Prime Minister , Haider al-Abadi, who is facing opposition even in the ranks of his party,

is not possible at a time Iraq is fighting the Islamic state organization, which occupies parts of the country.

Masum said to reporters in the framework of his visit to France and participating in the climate summit, "in the current circumstances it is impossible to replace al-Abadi. This is in the interest of Iraq. "

He added, " if we changed Abadi , then we need five to six months to agree on a person who will be his replacement. This government will be only a caretaker government and will not be able to sign any agreement as it will not be able to take any decision, while we are facing ISIS ".

He added, "What is the alternative? It is not easy to agree on another person. "

Abadi is facing objections even within his own party, al- Dawa Party, since he took office in August 2014 while the Islamic state organization took whole parts of its territory, including the country's second city of Mosul.

His position seems more fragile recently. As his predecessor, Nuri al-Maliki and other political figures from his parliamentary bloc with a Shiite majority, which has close ties with Tehran, have demanded to reduce the close cooperation with the international coalition led by the United States against the Islamic state organization.

Some politicians take Abadi as not sufficiently firm to complete the reforms in order to combat corruption.

Masum said in this regard that the reform plan "obtained the approval of parliament unanimously. No one opposed them. "

Masum is a Kurdish character and took the President of Iraq position since the summer of 2014, which is a honorary post.
