KRG Oil Pipeline to Ceyhan Closed-Turkish Minister reports Explosion

    Basnews -
ERBIL – Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz has reported that the Kirkuk – Ceyhan oil pipeline has been bombed in the south of Sirnak Province.

“Just after the explosion we’ve closed the oil valves to stop extra oil flow. We have taken measures and the attack won’t have an effect on oil supply and demand,” Yildiz told the state run news Anadolu Agency.

The alleged bombing follows an attack on the Turkey-Iran natural gas pipeline in eastern Agri Province on Monday that was blamed on the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

The area of Sirnak Province in which the pipeline failure has occurred is notorious for smuggling operations, but a KRG official insisted that the flow has been disrupted because of a bombing, despite issues earlier in the week.

“Oil stopped flowing briefly on Monday due to technical problems. There as an attack on the pipeline early this morning, but we expect flow to restart this afternoon,” official from KRG told BasNews, asking not to be named.

The Kirkuk – Ceyhan pipeline has an operational capacity of 400,000 barrels per day, although deliveries average 300,000 bpd due to technical failures, attacks and theft by smugglers.
