"They don’t discriminate against any Iraq whether you’re a Christian a Muslim a Kurd; whether you are an Arab, whether you are a Shia, whether you are a Sunni you are going to be targeted because they have a greater idea in mind and that idea is to put Iraq into a civil war."

Press TV has conducted an interview with Hussein Dabsh, Iraqi Affairs expert, Tehran about the issue of the increase in violence across Iraq as foreign-backed militants try to undermine the government. The following is an approximate transcript of the interview.

Press TV: Let’s look at the situation in Iraq. Why do you think that we are seeing month after month now - it’s been at least three months - that we’ve seen an increasing amount of people being killed.

Why this spate of violence and why now?

Dabsh: First of all violence actually started to increase to levels not seen since 2008 a few months ago. That’s when many people started to take to the streets and many Sunni provinces of Anbar and Mosul, they began their protest by calling for Baghdad to release hundreds of people who were in Iraqi prisons.

Baghdad, as a sign of goodwill and good intention with unity prospects basically released hundreds and hundreds of prisoners.

And you would think that these protests would cease afterwards, but instead these protesters are now calling for the downfall of the government of Baghdad and in fact these protesters don’t know exactly what they want because whatever comes to their mind, whatever is being said, that’s coming out of their mouth, are really coming from regional countries around Baghdad that do not want the Shia majority government, the Shia government in Baghdad.

These countries around Baghdad are not used to having the Shia-majority government run the Shia-majority country.

Press TV: So, do you think that the bottom line of this is regional countries trying to cause sectarian issues inside of Iraq in order for the Shias not to have the majority of the country and also basically not to have security in the country especially between the various Islamic perspectives?

Dabsh: Yes actually, we see that these attacks are not just targeting Shias. As a matter of fact, like today, they targeted mostly Sunni areas in Baghdad, in Mosul, in the west of Iraq in Anbar and this just comes to show what the true intentions of these terrorists are.

They don’t discriminate against any Iraq whether you’re a Christian a Muslim a Kurd; whether you are an Arab, whether you are a Shia, whether you are a Sunni you are going to be targeted because they have a greater idea in mind and that idea is to put Iraq into a civil war.
And this is what they tried to do back in 2006 and 2007, but failed to do so and now they’re trying again - they’re giving it another try especially with the crisis in Syria that’s going on. These militants in Iraq share the same ideology as the militants of Syria.

The terrorists of Syria and the terrorists of Iraq have one thing in common and that is to try to control a nation and bring down a nation to its knees via sectarianism.
