Ki-moon, Barzani discuss Iraqi, Regional political situation

Baghdad (AIN) –The President of Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon discussed the Iraqi and Regional political situation through a phone call between them.

A statement by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan cited "Ki-moon appreciated Barzani's role in achieving stability in the KR and Iraq as well as the Region," noting that "During his negotiations with the officials in Baghdad they stressed there is no alternative for dialogue, peace and coexistence."

"For his part, Barzani assured that KR supports dialogues to solve the disputes peacefully, stressing that the current problem is not related to KR rather it is the ruling problem due to violating the constitution," the statement added.

"Both sides exchanged the views over the situation in Syria where Ki-moon thanked Masoud for the supporting stance of KR towards the Syrian refugees," the statement concluded.
