Basra is preparing to explode .. Electric and service Protests is beating the drums of 2010 : Shafaq News / The demonstrations of the people of Basra province demanding to improve the reality of electricity and other services renewed. It was in turn not free from violence like its predecessor last year when the clashes erupted between protesters and security forces which fired live bullets to disperse the protesters.

Demonstrations began in the districts of Jamhuriyya and Muwafaqiya and Haiy Al-Hussein and Qiblah. The protesters had blocked the roads leading to their areas by setting fire to tires.

The security forces tried to end the demonstration, but they were not able to do so. So they fired shots into the air to disperse the demonstrators, but those forces was faced by throwing stones , so the confrontation between the two sides continue for more than two hours where a number of demonstrators were arrested.

Basra police chief Major General Faisal Al-Abadi said in an interview with "Shafaq News" "The demonstrations that took place was spontaneous and as a result of power cutting for many hours after the collapse of the electricity system."

Abadi added that "The security forces dealt with the demonstrators with great wisdom and self-control where all detainees were released one hour after the end of the protests."

For their part, a group of protesters expressed in an interview with "Shafaq News" their "indignation and resentment as a result of neglect suffered by Basra province and the federal government not taking into account the difficult circumstances prevailed in the city in light of the unprecedented temperature and humidity record height "

The protesters do not " trust the promises issued by the Ministry of Electricity and local government in improving the situation of electricity this summer."

Some of them wondered about the "causes of slighting practiced by some government agencies and the issuance of the lies that claim that Iraq will be able to export power next summer."

The deputy prime minister for energy Hussain al-Shahristani announced on 24th of last March, for self-sufficient power in 2013, as he revealed the distribution of civil generator fuel "free" this summer. He stressed that the production of electric power will reach to 9000 MW in the nearby days.

In turn, the leading figure in the " Fadhilah bloc Susan Sa'ad demanded in a statement to "Shafaq News", "security forces in Basra province, should use the methods of democracy to disperse the demonstrations, as in developed countries", warning of the repercussions of the shooting directly at unarmed citizens.

The security forces killed two citizens from the province of Basra in 2010 during demonstrations in protest out in front of the province of Basra, demanding the improvement of the reality of electricity.

Sa'ad who is a deputy for the province of Basra, said that "the demands of the demonstrators are legitimate, particularly they called for the provision of electricity under very high temperature and relative humidity in addition to the stopping of drinking water to coincide with the holy month of Ramadan."

She called the people of Basra province to "pacification, especially the failure, which was in the line of 132 kV which fuel the new west station of Basra belonging to the Directorate of the transfer of energy is going to be repaired in addition to completing the reform the failure in the station of Bab Zubair, which led to the complete cessation of all areas of FAO and Abu Khasib and Haiy Hussein and Qiblah and the city center. "

Sa'ad added that "officials at the Ministry of Electricity and in the province promised that the reality of power in the province will witness significant improvement during the coming days."

The people of the province of Basra had gone out in demonstrations on Monday, in protest against the continuous stoppings of power supply amid a big increase in temperature, which amounted to fifty degrees.

The three major feeders of electric power have collapsed completely ,which caused an almost complete stopping of power supply for the province of Basra, the local government said it has two lines being restoring service, and the third is being re-nourished during the next two days.

Most of the provinces suffer from a great lack of electricity to more than 16 hours a day cut compensated in part through the operation of civil generators, amid temperatures ranging between 45 to 50 degrees Celsius which arouses the citizens' protest. https://www.shafaaq.com/en/reports/30...s-of-2010.html

A contractor in Iraq said this about this article on another site..

"This article is a prelude to what is about to come, when Saader organizes and unleashes with one phone call his followers in which he has Boasted to be 1 million strong , on Baghdad......Saader has promised after Ramadan to protest the Iraqi central government because of their inability to keep the promise to the people in reference to electricity, clean water, food and a safe environment in which to live. All the blame sits squarely on the shoulders of one would be dictator....Prime Minister, Maliki."
