Security Council extends UN mission in Iraq for another year

Erbil, July 26 (PNA) - extended the UN Security Council on Wednesday, the task of the United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) for another year, in a move that was expected.

The sources said that the Security Council "voted today (yesterday) Wednesday unanimously adopted a resolution to extend the mission of the United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) for a period of one year, that is review the mission within 12 months or sooner if they made Baghdad in this regard ".

The resolution called on UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to "submit a report to the Council every four months on the progress in the work of the mission in Iraq," hello to "significant progress" achieved by Iraq towards restoring the international stature.

The council called on Baghdad to continue to cooperate with Kuwait to address the outstanding issues and to fulfill its obligations due under Chapter VII decisions of the relevant, pointing to the "positive developments" that have been made in the Iraqi-Kuwaiti relations.

And the outstanding issues relating to compensation to the victims of the invasion and maintain the border between the two countries and the return of the remains of hundreds of Kuwaitis and nationals of other States who were killed during their detention under the regime of Saddam Hussein as well as the Kuwaiti government property (Archive).
