Ki-moon is not tangible progress in the issue of missing persons and Kuwaiti property in Iraq

BAGHDAD (Iba) was Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon expressed regret yesterday for lack of tangible progress in the issue of missing Kuwaitis and Kuwaiti property in Iraq.

He recommended Ki-moon in his semi-annual on these issues to the UN Security Council, to continue to fund the international coordinator Supreme Gennady Tarsov until the end of the year.

He said in his report that the increase in cooperation between Kuwait and Iraq and the efforts made by the Iraqi authorities in the search for missing Kuwaitis and other countries in addition to Kuwaiti property «should be hailed and welcomed by».

He urged the Iraqi authorities to continue to take positive steps to implement its commitments to the international resolutions associated with these issues.

He also called on UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in his Iraq and Kuwait to explore other ways to promote cooperation between them.

The general secretary of the expeditions involved in Iraq that operate in the framework of the Technical Subcommittee of the Tripartite Commission and under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross «seem to have an appropriate mechanism and concrete to investigate the fate of missing Kuwaitis and nationals of third countries» in spite of the lack of progress in this area.

He said in a report that Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said last May in his country's commitment to resolve all outstanding issues with the State of Kuwait in order to achieve a rapid exit of Iraq from Chapter VII.

On the Kuwaiti property, Ban said there has been no tangible progress on the search for the Kuwaiti National Archives or the presence of reliable information about his fate, or where it is.

He welcomed the formation of Iraq's Committee aims to coordinate the search for Kuwaiti property, especially the National Archives of Kuwait looked forward to intensify these efforts by the Commission for access to the site of the National Archives of Kuwait.

He said although he has not so far to reach the archive Kuwait «But Iraq is proved by the discovery of some of the missing Kuwaiti property» that spawned his constructive positive results on this file.

He pointed out that the Iraqi authorities moved to Kuwait earlier this year and old documents of the Bank of Kuwait and coins, documents and keys to a private central bank coffers of Kuwait.


He added that the Iraqi authorities transferred 15 tapes (microfilm) containing the archive Kuwait News newspaper strip 136 (microfilm) contains the archive Kuwait newspaper today.

He welcomed the confidence-building measures and cooperation between Kuwait and Iraq, expressing the hope that it leads to positive results as soon as possible on these issues.

He recommended the UN Security Council, who will discuss this issue next Tuesday, the task of financing the extension of important international coordinator Supreme Gennady Tarsov until the end of this year to consolidate the progress achieved by Iraq to meet its international obligations on the issue of missing Kuwaitis and Kuwaiti property.

He urged Iraq and Kuwait to continue to work to strengthen the ongoing cooperation between them in order to search for missing Kuwaitis and Kuwaiti property.

He explained that the achievement of tangible progress in this humanitarian issue and to take necessary actions of Iraq before him on the outstanding obligations and for many of the international resolutions «will lay the foundations for good out of Iraq from Chapter VII».
