United Nations calls for the Kurdistan region to take advantage of the time delay to ensure the integrity of its elections

Baghdad, June 7 (Rn) - The United Nations Mission in Iraq on Thursday the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Electoral Commission for elections to take advantage of the time delay to ensure the conduct of elections in a timely manner and in accordance with accepted international standards.


The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Martin Kobler said in a statement that "the holding of free, fair and transparent is very important for democracy."

He said: "We call again the House of Representatives to ensure selection of the new Council Electoral Commission in a timely manner."

The United Nations Mission will continue to help Iraq under a mandate to provide technical assistance to the Electoral Commission and the Iraqi authorities in preparation for the establishment of these elections and other electoral processes, including the provincial elections scheduled to take place in Iraq in 2013.
