Damalouji: Count down toward withdrawing confidence from Maliki started

Baghdad (NINA) – Spokesperson for Iraqiya slate, Maysoun al-Damalouji, said that count down toward withdrawing confidence from Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has started, since the number of signatures collected supportive of it have exceeded half of lawmakers.

In a statement to the press on Sunday, June 3, Damalouji said, "Political blocs expect Maliki to submit his resignation prior to the process of withdrawing confidence begins, which is expected to start in the coming days."
Damalouji added, "The meeting of political blocs demanding withdrawing confidence from Maliki insisted on withdrawing confidence from Maliki as Prime Minister." She pointed out that recent meeting in Sulaymaniya, attended by Prime Minister of Kurdistan region and Deputy Secretary General of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Nechirvan Barzani, Deputy Secretary General Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Barham Saleh, was devoted to the issue of withdrawing confidence from Maliki.
She went on saying that Talabani advised political blocs demanding withdrawing confidence from Maliki to follow constitutional mechanism that required collecting signatures of more than half lawmakers, supporting the move, as the Constitution stipulates.
According to the Constitution, Talabani will then send the request to Parliament demanding withdrawing confidence from Maliki, who is expected submit his resignation before the process of withdrawing confidence begins, Damalouji continued
It is worth noting that Iraqiya slate announced that it has gathered signatures more than requires for withdrawing confidence from Maliki; saying that it is aiming the number of signatories to reach the number 200 signatories.
The number of votes needed to withdraw confidence from the government of Nuri al-Maliki is 164 out of total number of lawmakers of 325. / End. WWW.NINANEWS.COM
