The three presidencies held meetings with leaders of the political blocs to discuss upcoming legislative elections law established in 2018, a senior political source said that the meeting aims to formulate a unified position of the electoral law.

A senior political source said, that "the three presidencies held at 8:00 pm on Sunday, a meeting in the Peace Palace in Baghdad, with the leaders of the political blocs to discuss upcoming legislative elections law established in 2018", stating that "the meeting was attended by the President of the Republic Fouad Massoum and Prime Minister Haider Abadi and House speaker Selim Jabouri and most of the political and parliamentary process."

The source added that "the meeting, which ended after midnight Sunday, lasted for more than four hours, was designed to develop a unified position of the parliamentary elections Act", noting that "the meeting saw an exchange of visions between the political blocs and the three presidencies with a view to reaching consensus on the law."

Political blocs were called during the past few days to amend the electoral law currently in force and the formation of a new Electoral Commission under the auspices of the United Nations before launching any parliamentary or local elections to ensure impartiality.
