Turkey’s HDP leader meets with Iraqi Kurdistan parliament speaker

SULAIMANI, Iraq’s Kurdistan region,— Turkey’s Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Selahattin Demirtas met on Saturday with Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Yusuf Mohammed Sadiq from the Gorran Movement and urged for the political crises in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region to be tackled through peaceful democratic means.
Sadiq said, during a joint press conference, there is a need for unity through joint effort among Kurds from all parts of Greater Kurdistan.
“The HDP co-chair and the accompanied delegation have submitted a project seeking mediation and peace among political parties in the Kurdistan Region,” Sadiq said. “We warmly welcome their initiative and will follow any means needed for it to succeed.”

On the last and fourth day of his visit to Iraqi Kurdistan, Demirtas urged for a consensus among Kurdish political parties and the need for tackling issues through dialogue.
“We are grateful that parties in south [Iraqi] Kurdistan have shown a willingness to solve their issues via dialogue,” Demirtas said through a translator. “We should continue to strive internally towards democracy, the way we have continued against our enemies.”

The HDP delegation arrived in the Kurdistan Region early on Wednesday at Erbil International Airport to meet with Kurdish officials and leaders of political parties.
On Friday, the HDP delegation has visited Kirkuk and meets with the its Governor, Najmaldin Karim and also has meets with Jalal Talabani, Tevgera Azadi and PUK officials in Sulaimani city.
On Wednesday the the HDP delegation has met with second PUK Deputy Barham Salih after their meeting with KDP party leader Massoud Barzani.
