First marine college established in Iraq

Basra University announced the establishment of the first marine college in
Iraq, starting from this year

The college will have two departments, the first for natural marine and the second for applied marine sciences.

50 students shall be accepted for the first year, university sources said here today.

The real origin of this college is the Marine Sciences Center which was established in 1981.

The center owns a research ship, that belonged to ex-president Saddam Hussein, which is currently used in organizing scientific cruises.
