September 19, 2016

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Ibrahim Al-Jaafari met the British Minister of State for International Development Mr Rory Stewart in London on Saturday.

Both sides discussed a number of important issues, especially the return of the displaced families to their homes after liberating their towns from Da’esh.

His Excellency said that Iraq is in need of Britain’s support in reconstructing the liberated areas to secure the return of displaced families to their homes, especially that these provinces are suffering from financial crisis.

Dr Al-Jaafari called upon the British government to participate in solving the financial crisis that constrain investment in Iraq via developing the Iraqi banking system and providing technical assistance so as to improve the financial management.

The minister said that the micro-enterprise lending body for the unemployed that was established by the Iraqi government is insufficient and requires further support and finance.

Mr Stewart said the British government will fulfill its commitments towards Iraq in order to surpass the current challenges, and that Britain is keen to invest in Iraq and create jobs, also to make Iraq an attractive environment for British investment.
