Weak government representative Marsh making plans to revive the marshes

The Commission invited the agriculture and marshes and representative water stakeholders to prepare an integrated plan for managing the marshes and archaeological sites after joining the World Heritage list.

The Chairman said ULI Tamimi reporters "with UNESCO Marsh file there was a plan prepared by ministries, stakeholders include site management" stating that "the Committee has looked forward to this plan yet but we support the ministries and agencies concerned to prepare an integrated plan for managing these sites.

"Marsh management and archaeological sites need an integrated plan involving ministries and local governments, civil society organizations and the private sector to secure and exploit investment being within World Heritage list benefit Iraq as tourist sites in the future."

He noted that "there must be allocation of funds in the budget for the purpose of supporting and managing these sites.

UNESCO had ratified 17 of last July to join the marshes and archaeological areas in Iraq to the World Heritage list.
