$40 million donation for Sinjar kept in ‘Barzani-owned’ bank: MP

A member of Iraqi Kurdistan Parliament revealed that the $40 million donated by oil companies for rebuilding the war torn Kurdish Yazidi town of Sinjar (Shingal) has been kept at Kurdistan bank allegedly owned by PM Nechirvan Barzani and no money spent yet on reconstructing the town.

Ali Hama Salih, MP and head of the Finance and Economic Affairs Committee Ali Hama Salih in Kurdistan Parliament, stated that despite almost 9 month passed on the liberation of the Yazidi town, none of the donated funds has been spent on the destroyed town.

Hama Salih added that Kurdistan bank owned by Barzani’s family is responsible for the donated $40 million as well as billions of KRG oil revenue budget.

Almost all governmental buildings and civilian houses have been destroyed in the Yazidi town of Shingal.

Islamic State group has captured on most parts of Sinjar (Shingal) district in northwest Iraq on August 3, 2014 which led thousands of Kurdish families to flee to Mount Sinjar, where they were trapped in it and suffered from significant lack of water and food, killing and abduction of thousands of Yazidis as well as rape and captivity of thousands of women.

The Yazidi town of Sinjar has been liberated from Islamic State on Nov. 13, 2015 by Kurdish coalition forces backed by US-led force.
