Amnesty International: Turkey is holding people to places unknown in inhumane conditions

08/03/2016
Amnesty International said that the Turkish authorities are holding many people in unknown locations, after more than two weeks after the coup attempt.
Said Andrew Gardner, a specialist in Turkish affairs organization, told the German Press Agency dpa in Istanbul that because of the weakness of absorptive capacity in ordinary prisons, the detention of suspects across the country sporting facilities or places of breeding animals under inhumane conditions.
He added that he should be allowed detainees to communicate with their families and allow them access to a lawyer. Gardner pointed out that the authorities have not yet prepared an official list of prisoners and places of detention of a private accused of being coup leaders. The organization had warned in a report last week that the police could take part in the torture of suspects of masterminding the coup attempt, which was denied by the Turkish government.
