The Iraqi MP replaces the Kurdish forces with a new Arab unit

BAGHDAD —the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has replaced the Kurdish Peshmerga unit guarding the Iraqi parliament with another unit consisting of Arab soldiers.

Member of Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Security Affairs of the Iraqi Parliament, Shakhawan Abdullah, told BasNews that the Kurdish brigade, which was part of the security forces guarding the Iraqi parliament, has been dismissed by Abadi, while a unit from the Iraqi Arab security forces were put in the position.

Abdullah explained that during Abadi’s last visit to the parliament, some of the Shi’ite MPs threw water bottles at him and the PM wanted the Kurdish security forces of the parliament to take the legislator away.

“But the commander of the Kurdish forces denied his request by argumenting that the MPs have immunity,” the MP added.

Abdullah stressed out that the same Kurdish force played a significant role in assisting the Kurdish MPs escaping the parliament building last week when the Sadrist protesters stormed into the Green zone.

BasNews has learned that Abadi has unilaterally issued the order and that the Iraqi parliament was not informed about the decision https://iq.hathalyoum.net/21266
