Talking to reporters, the Iraqi envoy made the remarks on the sidelines of Iran international food exhibition in Arvand Free Zone in Khuzestan province.

'Iraq and Iran enjoy relations based on respecting mutual interests and tackling regional challenges,' he added.

'The two countries are determined to foster political, cultural and economic cooperation,' the envoy said.

'Two friendly and brotherly countries of Iran and Iraq, which have suffered by the Iraqi Baath regime's crimes, are keen on fostering mutual relations,' Abboud al-Mousavi said.

Several months ago, Iranian Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Ali Tayyeb-Nia said Iran and Iraq seek to increase the level of their bilateral trade from the current 12 billion dollars to 20 billion dollars.

Tayyeb-Nia said Iran has fertile grounds for trade cooperation with Iraq, particularly in the field of exporting technical and engineering services to Iran's western neighbor.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to cooperate and provide technical and engineering services to Iraq, especially in the fields of construction of roads, power plants and dams.”
