Iraq calls on Austria to reopen its embassy in Baghdad

Foreign Minister Ibrahim al - Jaafari called on Friday for the State of Austria to reopen its embassy in the capital.

According to a statement issued by the Information Office of Ibrahim al - Jaafari, the latter received a copy of credentials of the Ambassador of Austria is resident in Iraq Michael Desr papers, and discussed with him the progress of bilateral relations between Baghdad and Vienna, and ways to open the prospects of joint cooperation in all fields.

Jaafari stressed the need to strengthen relations and upgrade them to meet the ambition of the two friendly peoples, calling for the convening of the joint Iraqi-Austrian Committee, and the opening of the Austrian Embassy in Baghdad; because of its positive effects on the exchange of interests.

For his part , Ambassador of Austria Michael Desr confirmed that he would make every effort to strengthen relations between Baghdad and Vienna, referring to the relentless pursuit to hold joint Iraqi-Austrian Committee meeting as soon as within the framework of deepening the relations between the two countries, adding that his country would continue to provide humanitarian aid to Iraq, and operate within international Alliance against Daash.
