The Ministry of Electricity signed a contract with the American company "General Electric" for the development of the electricity sector and the addition of 700 MW before the summer of 2016, as revealed that the contract value exceeded one billion dollars.
Said Minister of Electricity Qassim Fahdawi in an interview to the (long-Presse), on the sidelines of the signing of a contract with the company (GE US), in the presence of the US ambassador Stuart Jones in the Babylon Hotel in central Baghdad, it said that "the ministry signed, today," yesterday ", a contract with the company ( General Electric) to add 700 megawatts to the power grid before the summer of 2016, "noting that" the contract worth more than a billion dollars. "
Fahdawi added that "the US company is one of the major international companies in the field of energy," revealing "the existence of a second phase to add more energy to the power grid by 2017".
Fahdawi confirmed that "the contract has been dealing with support from the US government and the US Embassy," pointing out that "the ministry has been able to invest cooperation with the United Nations for the benefit of the Iraqi citizen."
For his part, the US ambassador to Iraq, Stuart Jones said, in an interview to the (long-Presse), said that "we are pleased to be this cooperation to increase energy production capacity and add 700 megawatts during the next summer to the electricity network in Iraq," returned the agreement one of the advantages strategic agreement between Iraq and the United States of America. "
Jones added that "the Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and Minister of Electricity Qassim Fahdawi they had a request from the US administration to bring US companies for the development of the electricity sector in Iraq," stressing that "the United States is currently preparing Iraq with the latest technology to improve living in Iraq."

"

The Executive Director pointed out that "the company is working in Iraq for many years," stressing that "the company has more than 130 turbines operating in Iraq."
Iraq has suffered a shortage of electricity since the beginning of the year 1990, but the past three years have seen an improvement in the provision of electric power after the opening of a number of power stations which (Zubaydiah in Wasit and good deeds in Karbala and Alhaidariya in Najaf and the station gas in Maysan and two stations in Diwaniya and station al-Sadr in Baghdad , and the Shatt al-Arab stations and Rumaila in Basra and Kirkuk in the gas station), where the hours of operation to continue for about 20 hours with a special low temperatures with shrinking operating hours with high temperatures and increased loads on the power plants during peak times.
