Iraqi PM, president discuss crisis in Kurdistan Region

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and President Fuad Massoud discussed in a meeting in Baghdad the political and economic crisis in the northern autonomous region of Kurdistan, al-Maalomeh News agency reported.
According to the report Abadi’s office said in a statement that Massoud met Abadi in a meeting and the two officials discussed the latest developments in the Kurdish region where four protesters were killed in demonstrations in Sulaimaniya province in the region. Protesters demand unpaid salaries and electing a president for the region as President Massoud Barzani’s term ended on August 20 and opposition parties are against his reelection.
Abadi and Massoud reiterated on dialogue among all political parties in the region, the statement added, continuing that Baghdad welcomes reform in Iraq but would not interfere in disputes in the region.
The statement further added that the two sides traded views on making preparations for Mosul liberation.
