حددت اللجنة العليا الشرعية لثبوت رؤية الهلال التابعة لوزارة الأوقاف والشؤون الدينية في حكومة إقليم كردستان أول أيام عيد الفطر المبارك والذي يصادف يوم الـ8/8 المقبل، على اعتبار أن شهري رجب وشعبان الذين سبقا شهر رمضان كانا 30 يوما، لذا عليه يكون شهر رمضان المبارك يوم 29 يوما، مؤكدة أن "لجنة ثبوت رؤيا الهلال في الإقليم لها اتصال مع لجنة ثبوت رؤية الهلال التابعة للوقف السني في العراق والتي بدورها لها اتصال مع الممثل الفلكي في السعودية والإمارات وجنوب إفريقيا". أكد محافظ كركوك نجم الدين كريم، ان حل مشكلات كركوك يكمن في ضمها الى اقليم كردستان لكن بشروط ووضع خاص يختلف عن محافظات الاقليم. Said the governor of Kirkuk Necmettin cream, that the solution to the problems lies in the annexation of Kirkuk to Kurdistan but the terms and conditions of a special status different from the provinces of the region.
وقال كريم في برنامج متلفز بثته قناة الشرقية الفضائية: ان المركزية التي تتبعها حكومة بغداد مع المحافظات هي اسوأ بكثير مما كانت عليه قبل عام 2003 وبشأن الوضع الامني في كركوك . واشار الى: ان حفر خندق حول كركوك يمثل الحل الانسب للحد من الهجمات التي تستهدف المحافظة وان كان اهالي كركوك مجبرين عليه، وتابع: انه منذ الشروع بانشاء الخندق الامني حول كركوك انخفضت الهجمات المسلحة الى نحو 90%. He pointed out: that digging a trench around Kirkuk represents the most appropriate solution to reduce attacks against the province, though the people of Kirkuk forced it, and continued: Since the initiation of the establishment of the security trench around Kirkuk, armed attacks decreased to about 90%.
