Everything is a crisis in this ill-fated country it seems... Thanks so much chattels for all you do... I posted this on Red Lily's site... But it applies here as well...

I realize that our views on matters in Iraq may differ a bit, but to me there does not seem to be the least bit of urgency on the part of our government concerning affairs within Iraq... This official or that official will say they disapprove of the instability going on, Maliki's response to peaceful protests, and his hindering of the government, but nothing is done about it... Have not heard anything in the past week about horrible massacre that took place in that town in central Iraq... No sense of urgency at all on the part of the Iraqi government or the US government when it comes to implementing changes that need to be made or our government even enforcing these things to take place with military intervention...

So I am lead to believe we are not being told the whole story in a lot of ways... Too many inconsistencies.... Things not adding up... I remember reading a quote from a post about 8 months ago about a guy who had a friend who worked in the state department indicating by the time this is all done we will want to burn our dinar, or something to that effect... Maliki's has been allowed to get away with pretty much everything he has wanted to without much interference... Why?...

Are things deteriorating as we are being lead to believe or is deception on the menu.... I know the news looks bleak, but I tend to trust the news as much as I would a pathological liar... Something very elusive going on... There is that word CONSPIRACY... President Roosevelt once eluded to the fact that events that happen in the world do not just happen... They are planned that way... There is going to be an end game to all of this.... One I believe that will surprise us... Nothing is as it seems... But that is the way these agents of chaos work... One thing we can be certain of is that God is in control of this seemingly chaotic mess... Controlled chaos is a better definition I believe...

To many crisis's going on in my opinion... Making the situation look as hopeless as possible... Why is this being allowed to happen?...

Iraq’s Sunni Problem Does Not Only Affect Baghdad
    by Hiwa Osman 1/5/2013

In Iraq’s current crisis, where the large Sunni minority has been voicing its opposition to the Shiite-led central government with months of protests, both Baghdad and the autonomous Kurds in the north should realize that neither will benefit if the Sunni regions fall into rogue hands.

A Sunni region not administered by its own representatives will be a haven and a base for destabilizing Iraq.

It is only a matter of time for the extremist Islamic elements in Syria to take control of the country; a turbulent Sunni region in Iraq will be a natural extension for them.

With their months of protests – which have turned deadly following a police crackdown in the town of Hawija – the Sunnis have been voicing their displeasure at the government of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

For weeks the Kurds and Sunnis have pulled out of Maliki’s coalition government, leaving him alone in Baghdad.

Maliki has achieved the unenviable feat of alienating the autonomous Kurds in the north, making enemies of the Sunnis who accuse his government of indifference to their problems and needs, and even some Shiite groups.

The trouble that Maliki himself has stirred with his unwise moves is changing the country’s Shiite political map, and leading it to war.

Instead of turning their anger at Maliki into something bigger that may get out of hand, the Sunnis should not let their present dissatisfaction become the basis for long-term strategies for Iraq’s various parties.

They should realize that Maliki will not be in power forever, and should formulate a workable and practical Sunni strategy for their status in the new Iraq.

Such a strategy should take into account the sensitivities and tensions that exist inside the Shiite community, and should accept that single-handed Sunni rule over the country will never again return.

Without this realization, the Sunni region will become a free-for-all, a rogue and lawless area in a turbulent Middle east.

The Kurds, who also have their problems with Baghdad, should be mindful of the dangers of a lawless Sunni region to their south and encourage the Sunnis to adopt a clear strategy for their future in Iraq.

Hiwa Osman is a media development specialist based in Erbil.
